China’s Slowing Economy Puts Pressure on American Exporters – NYTimes.com

Generally the news is about China’s exports to the US but China is a major destination for US and Texas exports.  In 2011, Texas exported over $10.9B in goods up from $10.3B in 2010 and double the amount of goods exported to China in 2005 ($5B). In 2011, Texas was only behind California and Washington State for total exports to China.

This article shows why Texas and other states need to work with local businesses to diversify their export markets so that a downturn in one market can be offset by an increase in another export market.
